Tara McGee has more than a decade of legislative experience in the complex and fast paced California Legislature. She began her career in the State Assembly, rising through the ranks to become a seasoned and respected staff member. In 2015, she joined the California State Senate where she would become Legislative Director for Senator Anthony J. Portantino, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, one of the most powerful positions in the Legislature. In that role, Tara managed the broad legislative program of the Senator, ensuring that his priorities passed and were signed by the Governor. Tara developed the legislative package for each legislative session and directed high-priority bills for the Senator, gaining particular expertise in policy areas that include Education, Health, Housing, Transportation, Gaming, and Public Safety. Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Tara is a proud graduate of California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
