Sam Ranson
DIRECTOR OF HEALTH POLICY & RESEARCH, DC AND TALLAHASSEE
Sam Ranson is the Director of Health Policy Research within Ballard Partners’ Health Policy Advisory Group, where he leads efforts to track, analyze, and translate into actionable insights legislative and regulatory activity with the potential to impact our client organizations. Most recently, Sam served in the same role for the Anway Policy Group (APG), a public policy consulting firm specializing in the health care sector.
Prior to joining APG, Sam spent five-plus years working as part of the Federal Government Relations team at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), the preeminent trade association representing the interests of the biotech sector in Washington, D.C. At BIO, Sam supported the trade association’s lead lobbyist in pursuing the policy priorities of BIO’s life sciences membership, gaining crucial experience observing and engaging in the policymaking process from an industry perspective.
Sam’s interest in health policy first arose as he served as a legislative intern for longtime U.S. Senator Pat Roberts and, subsequently, for the Washington, D.C.-based policy and government relations firm Tarplin, Downs & Young. Those formative experiences spurred Sam to pursue and secure his role at BIO. At Ballard Partners, Sam utilizes an understanding of both public and private sector perspectives to help our clients understand and optimally navigate an ever-changing health policy climate.
Sam holds a B.A. in Economics and German from the University of Georgia, as well as an M.A. in International Economics and International Relations from Johns Hopkins University.
